3rd International conference to review research on Science, TEchnology and Mathematics Education

Conference epiSTEME-3 is the third in a series of biennial conferences meant to review research world-wide in science, technology and mathematics education. It is being organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, a National Centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India.
The epiSTEME conferences aim to bring together researchers in the neighbouring disciplines of science, technology and mathematics education, and in the disciplines that inform this research such as history and philosophy of science, cognitive and socio-cultural studies.

Technology and its Integration into Mathematics Education

TIME-2008.This symposium combines 2 conferences: 10th ACDCA Summer Academy and 8th Int'l Derive & TI-Nspire Conference. The conference will be hosted by the Tshwane University of Technology at Buffelspoort conference centre in South Africa from the 22nd to 26th September 2008.

History and Pedagogy of Mathematics

The HPM Satellite Meeting of ICMEJuly 14 - 18, 2008, Mexico City,MEXICO.The HPM 2008 is the seventh quadrennial meeting of the International Study Group on the Relations between the History and Pedagogyof Mathematics (the HPM Group), affiliated to ICMI. It is a satellite meeting of the corresponding ICME International Congress on Mathematical Education and is scheduled close to ICME. The HPM 2008 is a place where mathematicians, educators, historians, researchers and students, can make presentations and participate in discussions. The programme and activities are structured around the following main themes:

1. Integrating the History of Mathematics in Mathematics Education.

2. Topics in the History of Mathematics Education.

3. Mathematics and its relation to science, technology and the arts: historical issues and educational implications.

4. Cultures and Mathematics.

5. Historical, philosophical and epistemological issues in Mathematics Education.

The following themes will be the foci of the conference:

  1. Recent findings from science and mathematics education research
  2. Using discipline-based education research in middle, secondary, and post-secondary science and mathematics classrooms
  3. Research supported strategies to increase participation and learning in science and mathematics, particularly among students from under-represented groups

Science and Mathematics Education Conference (SMEC 2008)

"Sciences serving science: Cross-disciplinary issues in mathematics and science education" is the third in a series of biennial international Science and Mathematic Education Conferences (SMEC) that have been hosted by the Centre for the Advancement of Science Teaching and Learning (CASTeL) this September, 11-12th in Dublin.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Breadth versus depth in science curricula
  • Transfer of knowledge & skills between disciplines
  • Interdisciplinarity & multidisciplinarity
  • Subsidiary subjects in science
